Environmental Project Manager

Summary of Position:

We are seeking an Environmental Project Manager with at least 8-years of experience in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and/or Ohio. This person will help our environmental team with a variety of field investigations, permitting, project coordination, and assisting with overseeing the project life-cycle of a project. As a full-time position, this individual should have a focus in environmental sciences, geology, or environmental engineering with an understanding of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, be detail orientated, work independently, have excellent written and verbal communication and work collaboratively with other team members internally and externally.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical reviews to environmental staff on reports, permits, investigations and regulatory compliance.
  • Performs management and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare analytical and technical reports.
  • Interprets findings and compares with local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Develops working relationships with existing and potential clients.
  • Works cooperatively with Ascent managers, office personnel and other field staff.
  • Balance working in the office 60% and field 40%.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering or other related Physical Science.
  • At least 8 years of environmental experience, preferably with West Virginia, Pennsylvania and/or Ohio.
  • At least 3 years of project management.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to safely operate a vehicle.
  • Ability to work in all types of outdoor environments.
  • Ability to lift, carry and load field equipment up to 50 pounds.

Senior Contracts Manager

Ascent Consulting and Engineering is looking to add a key member to their leadership team in a Senior Contracts Manager. This individual will serve a key function in leading and supporting design, permitting, client management, contract development, subcontracting efforts across our engineering division. In this role, you will have the opportunity to help guide the company’s future endeavors with participating in contract proposal preparation, contract negotiations, contract administration, and customer activities to manage assigned contracts in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and customer specifications.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead proposal activities, including but not limited to: analysis of the Request for Proposals, ensuring proper contract reviews and relevant compliance matrices are completed before any proposals are submitted to customer or any execution activities begin, with particular attention to the financial and business risks of the proposed effort, participating in all proposal team meeting, preparing terms, conditions and assumptions upon which the proposal may be submitted.
  • Provide support and guidance to project teams during contract execution to ensure full compliance with contract terms and relevant government regulations.
  • Offer innovative approaches to problem solving and develop solutions to contracting issues in supporting all phases of the acquisition cycle.
  • Support sourcing with preparation of flow-down packages for sub-contractors/suppliers and managing sub-contractors/suppliers during contract execution.
  • Lead efforts on a variety of projects including the ability to design and oversee from concept through completion.
  • Demonstrate experience in all aspects of project management such as proposals, cost estimates, technical expertise, coordination of staff and subconsultants, through construction and project closeout, etc.
  • Work closely with office leadership to develop growth plans and ensure staff utilization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, engineering technology, environmental engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of project manager experience across numerous industries, such as site development, renewable energy, municipal engineering and planning.
  • Strong client development and client management skills.
  • Proficiency of AutoCAD or Civil 3D preferred.
  • Experience in technical and proposal writing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Contract Management Certification, Certified Professional Contract Manager, Certified Contract Management Associate or related certification.
  • Experience with various contract types (i.e. Firm Fixed Price (FFP), Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF), Time and Material (TM), and contract change management.
  • Proficiency of AutoCAD or Civil 3D preferred.
  • Ability to manage projects/assignments within tight deadlines.
  • High-energy team player.
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate contractual language.

Field Service Lead Coordinator

Ascent Consulting & Engineering, LLC is looking to add a key position of Field Service Lead Coordinator to their growing team of professionals. The Field Service Lead Coordinator will work directly with the Division Manager to schedule, plan and assist with the day-to-day operations of the Field Service Division.  To be a successful candidate for this position they should be highly organized, detail oriented, understand construction materials standards for the state of West Virginia and have excellent communications skills.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

The Field Service Lead Coordinator position with primary responsibility and daily task could include the following. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

  • Develop construction testing and inspection schedule daily.
  • Coordinate clients and contractor requests for services.
  • Perform sampling and field testing on construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, aggregate, soils on-site and in the lab.
  • Complete, maintain and review construction documents, electronic daily reports, as-built redlines, and other reports.
  • Effectively communicate with upper management, field staff, contractors, and clients alike.
  • Perform QA/QC of construction inspection and testing on-site and in lab.
  • Complete QA/QC and technical review on field service documents, such as proposal, calculations, reports, and schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with WVDOH specifications, industry standards, and use of proper materials for each project.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years of experience of related engineering, field service, construction materials, materials laboratory experience, site grading and/or field quality assurance testing.
  • Certifications in WVDOH Materials in asphalt, compaction, soil, aggregate and Portland Cement Concrete.
  • Must have High School Diploma or State Equivalency Certificate
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends, when required by the project assignment. Daily travel is expected, and overnight travel occasionally is possible.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and rugged terrain/stand for extended period of time.
  • The ability to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Must have computer skills in word, excel and mathematics.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in a field related to engineering, engineering technology or construction management.
  • WVDOH experience preferred.
  • Certify or possess the qualifications to certify as a WVTRET Level I – V.
  • National or State Certifications such as ACI, NICET, NACE.
  • Safety certifications such as First Aid/CPR, OSHA-10, PEC Safeland or other related certifications.

Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation in the form of written and digital reports. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, work areas and adhere to safety standards. This position will be full-time and will include travel and potential overnights stays..
